The Town Crier's Family Reunion Cry
Easter 2015 marked 20 years since nearly 150 descendants and partners of Carl and Maria Alve gathered at Highden, Awahuri for a major reunion. To mark the occasion and to continue celebrating our family heritage a day event was planned for Easter Sunday 5 April 2015.
60 people attended this reunion, including some of the last of the 2nd generation family & spouses pictured below. Descendants of six of the nine 1st generation Alve families were present; children of Theresia, Lena, Henry, Eddie, Clara and Dolf. |

Sadly, the weekend before the Reunion two who were planning to attend died: Alve Purdom and Ken McLeod. Close family members of these two men did attend as below...
A feature of the mini-Reunion was the number of younger descendants who attended.

Shall We Regather Easter Weekend 2026?
On the 24th March 1876 Carl & Maria Theresia Alve with little Mary landed on the wharf at Wellington, NZ. So the 24th March 2026 marks 150 years - the sesquicentenary - since the arrival of our forbears in New Zealand. Easter Sunday 2026 is on Sunday 5 April, as it was this year (2015)!
Perhaps Easter weekend 2026 will be an appropriate occasion for Alve descendants to re-gather and celebrate this significant occasion. We might be able even to invite a few American (Canadian and USA), German and other cousins to join us, maybe in Palmerston North. Is anyone willing to be part of an organising group to begin preparing for such an occasion? It's only 11 years away! Please contact Terry using the form on this website if you are. |
